The Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award recognizes the top students applying to become inspirational leaders at Simmons University.
A highly sought-after and extremely competitive Simmons scholarship is awarded to students who have excellent academic accomplishments, a superb service pattern in the community and a desire to make significant changes in society.
As a member of the campus community, scholars engage in personal and intellectual development opportunities as well as cultural exploration and social interaction.
The scholarship is for full tuition, all mandatory fees (excluding health insurance), and room & board over four years and displaces any lesser merit-based award.

Simmons University Kotzen Scholarships Eligibility Criteria
For the Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award, students must meet these criteria:
- Apply as a fresher for the Fall Semester
- A minimum GPA of 3.50
- History of College Prep, advanced placement AP, Honors or international baccalaureate IB Courses
- Non-Native English speakers require the knowledge of English Language or English language proficiency, therefore you are expected to submit your TOEFL, SAT, or ACT scores.
- Standardized test score (optional): 28+ ACT or 1300 SAT
- Community Service: Candidates must have a demonstrated record of community involvement (extracurricular activities, part-time work experience ).
- Applicants must show interest and passion for their chosen course of study. It should be reflected in their grades, experiences and resumes.

- Purpose of admission in the program Gleaning at the quality instruction within written essays and answers
- Program incentives.
- Essay (300–500 words): Discuss your leadership style and provide examples of the experiences that have developed you as a leader, supporting what type of future leader you will be if accepted by Simmons.
Simmons University Kotzen ScholarshipS Application Process
- The application takes the form of a traditional essay in answer to our prompt. To apply, students must submit their essay via the Common Application or as a PDF/Word Doc Email with the subject line “Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award application” by December 1. The student’s full name and date of birth should be written at the top of each page of the document.
- Students must submit their scholarship application and admission application to the university no later than December 1st 2024.
- Materials are due December 1, and should be e-mailed as PDF or Word Docs to ugadm@simmons.edu with the subject: Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award application. The student’s first and last name and date of birth should appear on each page.
- Note that the writing task asks you for a formal essay, in which you describe your leadership style and give specific examples of experiences that have shaped how you lead and what sort of leader we might expect from you at Simmons.
- Any prospective student who moves on to scholarship consideration as a finalist will be granted an on-campus interview in February. However, if you are unable to attend an on-campus interview in person as an international student a Skype video-recorded interview will be done instead.
