 The Indonesian Government presents the Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) scholarship as a form of financial aid to interested international citizens from developing countries at any Indonesian university. 

The Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) scholarship, provided by the Indonesian Government, is a fully funded scholarship that includes tuition fees, a monthly allowance, housing and accommodation, and international flight fares.

With KNB scholarship, applicants have an opportunity to study in top universities in Indonesia and also get to experience top-notch study programs controlled by thirty-one university partners. 

The main objective of the Indonesian Government KNB Scholarship is to enhance Indonesian higher education research programs, also as part of the national scheme to make Indonesia a home to top-class universities. 

The thirty-one KNB Scholarship host universities together with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia will admit 222 KNB Scholars in 2025 (30 bachelor’s, 162 Master’s, 30 PhD Scholars).

Eligibility Requirements 

For a Bachelor’s degree,  applicants must:

• be at least 21 years old, on or before the 31st of December 2025
• have a senior secondary school degree (if you have a Bachelor’s degree, you cannot apply for the Bachelor’s degree Scholarship) 
• have a minimum English Proficiency Test Score as listed below;
  • TOEFL ITP: 477
  • IELTS: 5,5
  • TOEFL IBT: 53
  • TOEIC: 510

Any English Proficiency Certificate more than 2 years old will not be accepted.

NB: Applicants from English-speaking countries, do not need to submit the English Proficiency Test certificates.

• issue the recommendation letter from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia or Indonesian Consulate General 
• issue a letter of recommendation from an employer or supervisor in the English language or Bahasa
• issue an Academic letter of recommendation from the previous schools attended in the English language or Bahasa
• issue copies of scanned Academic certificates and transcripts of secondary school degree in English language or Bahasa (only authorized by the Ministry of Education and/ or Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your home country) 
• have a valid international passport (on or before 21st December 2026)
• fill the application form from the official website 
• scan documents in .jpeg or .jpg format,  and the maximum size per file should be about 300kb.
• make sure the scanned documents are up to date, complete,  and correct before ending the online registration 

For Master’s degree, applicants must:

• at least 35 years old, on or before the 31st of December 2025
• have a Bachelor’s degree (if you have a Master’s degree you cannot apply for the Master’s degree Scholarship) 
• have a minimum English Proficiency Test Score as listed below;
  • TOEFL ITP: 500
  • IELTS: 6,0
  • TOEFL IBT: 61
  • TOEIC: 575

Any English Proficiency Certificate more than 2 years old will not be accepted.

For PhD, applicants must:

• at least 40 years old, on or before the 31st of December 2025
• be a master’s degree holder (if you have a PhD degree, you cannot apply for the PhD degree Scholarship) 
• have a letter of recommendation in the English language or Bahasa from a potential research supervisor in any university in a partner with the KNB Scholarship
• issue a statement of purpose, which states the purpose of study, why you are interested in studying in Indonesia, why the chosen research topic, and your future academic plan (to be written in the English language or Bahasa) 
• have a minimum English Proficiency Test Score as listed below;
  • TOEFL ITP: 530
  • IELTS: 6,0
  • TOEFL IBT: 71
  • TOEIC: 640

Any English Proficiency Certificate more than 2 years old will not be accepted.

• Letter of recommendation from potential research supervisor in any university in partnership with KNB Scholarship (PhD applicants only)
• Statement of purpose (PhD applicants only)

Application Procedures

• Visit the KNB Scholarship website to download the KNB scholarship offering letter
• Applicants should then visit the Indonesian Embassy or Indonesian Consulate General of their home country to submit the above-listed required documents, in order to get a letter of recommendation from the Indonesian representatives
• The Indonesian representative collects data, reviews all necessary documents, and validates the submitted documents 

NB: without the letter of recommendation from an Indonesian representative, applicants cannot register for the KNB Scholarship

• After getting the letter of recommendation from the Indonesian representative, KNB scholarship applicants can now register on the KNB Scholarship official website.
